Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 2 scoops Vanilla ice cream High-quality or homemade is best; super-creamy varieties give a silkier float.
  • 2 cups Cherry soda Brand choice changes sweetness and intensity; black cherry sodas give a deeper flavor.
  • 2 Cherries for garnish Maraschino cherries are classic; fresh Bing cherries add brightness.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Chill a tall glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes to slow melting.
  • Add one generous scoop (or two small scoops) of vanilla ice cream to the glass.
  • Slowly pour the cherry soda down the side of the glass over the ice cream. Pause as foam rises and let it settle to avoid overflow.
  • Finish with a cherry on the rim or on top and serve immediately with a long spoon and straw.

Notes

Cherry floats are best served immediately, as they won’t store well once assembled. For lighter alternatives, use frozen yogurt or dairy-free ice cream. If serving kids, offer small cups for manageable portions.
